The Bebertal native aims to qualify in Poland for Schwarzenegger\u2019s armwrestling event<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While many vacationers are enjoying the holiday spirit along Poland\u2019s Baltic Sea coast, Matthias Schlitte from the B\u00f6rde district is facing a tough athletic challenge. On the Hel Peninsula, the 13-time German Champion will compete this coming weekend at the Hel International Armwrestling Tournament<\/strong> \u2013 and it\u2019s about more than just medals: Schlitte is aiming to secure his ticket to the 2026 Arnold Classics in Columbus, Ohio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament is one of the few official European qualifiers for the multi-sport festival founded by action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/strong>. Every year, the world\u2019s best athletes in various disciplines compete in the U.S. \u2013 from bodybuilding and powerlifting to professional armwrestling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Matthias “Hellboy” Schlitte<\/strong>, who already won bronze at the 2025 Arnold Classics in Ohio, the motivation is high:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got a taste for it. The stage in Columbus is one of a kind \u2013 I want to experience that again!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

But before that can happen, the man from B\u00f6rde must face a tough field in Poland. Over 100 athletes from 10 nations are expected to compete \u2013 including many international stars. For Schlitte, the main focus is on hitting the 70-kilogram weight limit<\/strong> to qualify for his intended class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve tailored my training and nutrition entirely to this weight class. The goal is clear: secure the qualification!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Schlitte has proven many times that he can handle high-pressure situations. Most recently, at his big appearance in Ohio, he showed mental toughness by battling through seven intense matches<\/strong> to reach the podium \u2013 taking bronze at one of the world\u2019s most prestigious tournaments<\/strong>. A performance that earned him recognition both nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now the next chapter is about to begin. At this new edition on the Baltic Sea, the Bebertal athlete wants not only to claim another title \u2013 but above all to secure another chance to compete at America\u2019s biggest sports event<\/strong>. If successful, the grand stage awaits again in spring 2026 \u2013 with another clash of titans<\/strong>, and perhaps even a personal meeting with Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
